The journey of our 2023 Subaru WRX Build (VB chassis 2022+) equipped with the new FA24DIT engine has been one of continuous refinement, balancing power, reliability, and drivability.
From the beginning, the goal has been to create a fast and fun street car that remains comfortable for daily driving while excelling in track use. We have autocrossed, drag-raced, and ran the car on track days. Every modification has been carefully selected to enhance performance without sacrificing practicality, ensuring the WRX remains an engaging and well-rounded machine. Beyond just selecting proven modifications, we are also working directly with manufacturers to test and develop new products. Through extensive dyno testing, we’ve uncovered surprising results—some upgrades delivering real gains where few expected, while others failed to perform despite widespread belief in their effectiveness.
Please enjoy reading about our journey as we push the limits of the 2022+ Subaru WRX, testing and refining upgrades to separate the real performance gains from the hype. Whether you're looking for proven modifications or insights from our hands-on testing, we hope this guide helps you build the perfect WRX for your needs!
Aesthetics
While performance is a major focus of our WRX build, aesthetics play an important role in creating a car that looks as good as it drives. From functional aero enhancements to stylish exterior upgrades, every modification is chosen to complement the WRX’s aggressive design while maintaining practicality. Some visual upgrades, like hood scoop ducts and front lips, offer real performance benefits, while others, such as body accents, allow for personalization and style.

Power & Performance
When it comes to power and performance, unlocking the full potential of the 2022+ Subaru WRX requires a strategic approach. While the stock platform is impressive, carefully selected upgrades can transform the car into a true powerhouse. From custom tuning and airflow enhancements to turbocharger upgrades and supporting modifications, every component plays a role in maximizing horsepower, torque, and drivability. Through extensive dyno testing, we’ve identified which parts deliver real gains and which ones fall short of expectations, helping you make the most informed choices.

Suspension & Brakes
Suspension and brakes are critical for achieving precision handling and confident stopping power in your WRX. The factory setup provides a solid baseline, but targeted upgrades can dramatically improve performance on both the street and the track. While we have not extensively modified the suspension or braking system so far, our needs have been met with custom autocross springs developed in-house and upgraded brake pads. Additionally, for those seeking a more offroad-capable rallycross setup, we’ve developed a raised rallycross spring for RalliTEK—it’s not installed on our current build, but it’s available for purchase here. Stay tuned as we continue to refine this portion of the vehicle and push its performance limits even further.
Currently Equipped Suspension & Brakes
- PREracing AutoX Lowering Springs
- Hawk HP Plus Performance Brake Pads
Drivetrain
The drivetrain is the backbone of the WRX’s performance, transferring power to the pavement and dictating how the car responds under aggressive driving. While Subaru's AWD system delivers excellent traction, certain drivetrain components require upgrades to handle increased power and spirited use. The clutch is often the first weak point when torque levels rise, and although the manual transmission is capable, it has its limits under extreme loads. Enhancements like shifter upgrades, as well as differential and bushing modifications, can further refine stability and responsiveness.
Currently, our car remains effectively stock; however, we have a stack of Perrin components lined up for testing, so stay tuned as we push the limits of our drivetrain setup!
Wheels & Tires
Wheels and tires are the final link in your WRX’s performance chain, bridging the gap between upgraded power and a responsive driving experience. The right lightweight wheels not only enhance the car’s aesthetic appeal but also reduce unsprung weight, leading to improved acceleration, braking, and cornering. Coupled with high-performance tires, these upgrades provide the grip and feedback necessary to truly harness your WRX’s potential.
